Written Prayer for Evangelicals: Glorify the Only True God

One thing I’ve noticed is that very few Evangelicals ever use written prayers. I think, though, that they can be useful at times, especially when poetic in form. So this is what I wrote for myself, and I decided to share it.

Dear God,
You alone are holy.
Your splendor is unmatched,
And Your glory is incomparable.
Your holiness burns as a fire,
As the very sun around which the solar system runs.
So I glorify You,
The only true God.

Dear God,
You alone are worthy,
Your brilliance is superior,
And Your wisdom is unfathomable.
Your majesty shines as a star,
As a blue giant lighting up the cosmos.
So I glorify You,
The only true God.

Dear God,
You alone are love.
Your grace is bottomless,
And Your mercy is unquenchable.
Your faithfulness stands as a mountain,
As a towering and unshakable peak.
So I glorify You,
The only true God.

Dear God,
I am unholy.
I am unworthy.
I am unlove.
Hungry and desperate I come,
For only Your fullness can fill me.
So I glorify You,
The only true God.

Dear God,
We are bankrupt,
We are beggars.
We are dust.
Only Your glory can give us life,
And eternal life is our desire.
So we glorify You,
The only true God.

Give us this day of Your glory and grace,
In the name of Your gracious and glorious Son,
Amen.
